The Oresund Region - The Human Capital of Europe - has, in its capacity of new thinking, proven technological achievements, and human valuables, successfully reached for the status of being the development centre of Northern Europe at the brink of the coming millennium.

The region is well prepared.

As a recognised centre of development and research - ranking only 3rd after London and Paris, measured in scientific publications, and ranking higher than these as far as social securities and standard of living are concerned, - the region has proved its natural position as the gateway to not only the Scandinavian/European markets, but, in specific sectors such as Biotechnical and IT & Telecom research, to the global market.

In addition to this, the region is the natural gateway to the EU-market"!

The fixed link between the former separated national territories - Sealand in Denmark and Scania in Sweden will in year 2000 connect the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, and the 3rd largest city of Sweden, Malmo, in one region; the Northern European hub for transportation and distribution.

The establishment of the Oresund Region was initialised by the governments of Denmark and Sweden, and signed by the Prime Ministers of the two countries - Mr. Poul Nyrup Rasmussen of Denmark and Mr. Göran Persson of Sweden.

The region is prominent, among other things, in being rated among the top four European metropolitan areas with the highest production of scientific papers, surpassed only by London, Paris, and the Amsterdam/ Rotterdam areas, and number six (Copenhagen) among the cities in Europe in terms of international air passenger traffic.

The Region is regarded as an extremely attractive area to live in, due not least to its high standards of living, natural attractions, and ongoing development.
